It all depends on what you mean by famous, but I have met some space celebrities. I’ve meet 3 moon walkers: Alan Bean, David Scott, and Harrison Schmitt. I’ve also met some of the astronauts who flew the shuttle that launched the Magellan Venus radar mapper mission. Also among astronauts I’ve met: Sally Ride, first American woman in space, and Kathy Sullivan, first American woman to go on a spacewalk. Combining space and Hollywood, I’ve also met Sir Patrick Stewart (before he was a Sir:-)) who was Capt Picard, and William Shatner, who was Capt Kirk. I used to live in LA where it was easier to see actors than astronauts…:-)

I’ve been really lucky to have met a lot of NASA astronauts! Helen Sharman once said hello to me but I didn’t recognize who she was because I’m a clueless American!!

In the space field I’ve met various astronauts over the years, and quite a few famous scientists and astronomers. When I was on The Sky At Night I met Patrick Moore, and I’ve met Brian May a couple of times. Who else? I’ve met 4 or 5 of the Doctors and various other actors from the original run of Doctor Who. Judith Hann from Tomorrow’s World! While at university I saw Stephen Hawking a few times, though didn’t have a conversation with him. Probably there are lots of people considered ‘famous’ these days who I wouldn’t recognise if I passed them in the street!

I’ve met or listened to quite a few astronauts and celebrities. However, although it may sound a bit corny, the people who have made the most impression on me have tended to be excellent communicators, researchers, and teachers from whatever background, famous or not.

I’ve met Tim Peake a few times, and when I went on Stargazing live I met Brian Cox, Dara O’Brean and Brian May from Queen. I’ve met the Queen, and Prince Philip and Princess Anne all through work on the Rover. And Carol Vorderman. And Charlie McDonnell did a youtube video with me in our Mars yard!
