Space is actually very very light! it’s just that there is just nothing there for us to see!

It is dark on Earth at night because at night the earth is between us and the sun so we are standing in the shadow of the earth and that is blocking the light from the sun!

What Peter said! You can only see light if it is reflected off things to bounce into your eyes. And space is very very empty so there is not a lot of stuff to bounce light off!
